I've just uploaded VSX1940 and installed it for VS2012 only. After that, Visual Studio won't start, only splash screen appear. Then, HDD led is constantly lights red, Windows doesn't respond to keyboard or mouse. Only option I have is to press reset.
My PC runs under Win 2012 Standart, hardware is AMD FX-6300, 32 Gb RAM, system installed on PLEXTOR PX-128M5S SSD.

Are you working on this computer directly, or connecting via remote desktop, or something similar?
VA should not be able to take your system down like this, it should require something low level, like a driver, that we are somehow triggering, to cause these problems. We have had occasional reports of problems running over remote desktop, hence the question.
Have you used any other version of VA successfully on this machine? I am wondering if this is somehow a version specific problem.
If you run Windows Update, are all of your drivers up to date? |

Many apologies for this problem, this is very serious. Its not a problem I recognise, but the first step is to get you back into VS2012.
Can you please use Windows Key + R to show the Run dialog, and run the command:
"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\\Common7\\IDE\\devenv.exe" /SafeMode
This is the default install path for VS2012 under Windows 7 64bit, so should be the correct path for your system. The /SafeMode command line switch stops VS2012 from loading most extensions, VA included. Hopefully VS2012 will load successfully.
If you go into:
IDE tools menu -> Options -> Extensions and Updates -> Load per user extensions when running as administrator
you will be able to Uninstall VA, which is probably a good place to start.
Which extensions are listed on you system? On a full install of VS2012 with VA I have the following extensions listed:
Microsoft Web Developer Tools
NuGet Package Manager
Visual Assist X
Visual Studio Extensions for Windows Library for JavaScript
if you have a different list that might be a clue.
Do you have any other IDE's installed on your machine?
Have you used any other versions of VA on this machine? I am wondering if this might be a version specific problem, or a corrupt download and install. |
