In VS2012 there are three tab status for an open text file: preview, normal and pinned. When I have a document open in the preview mode and open the corresponding file with the VA utility (ALT-O), the corresponding file is opened in the normal status.

I find this behaviour annoying because when I just want to browse through my files, I don't want to clutter my workspace. The preview feature was added exactly for that purpose and I feel like your utility should not break that.

Therefor, I propose that ALT-O on a preview tab should open the corresponding file also in preview mode.

Thank you for the link. The case is internal, and sadly you cannot see it. There isn't really much to see, just some discussion about implementation details. No current estimate for when this will be done though, it is just one of several enhancements we are considering.

Cool, thanks! There is an MSDN blog entry [1] with more information about the feature. I'm interested in the discussion, can you provide me with a link to the case or is it all company internal?

This makes sense, I don't normally use the preview tab myself, so I was not sure what you were thinking. I have put in a feature request for this to see what our developers make of it:

There is always only one preview tab and I would also expect the corresponding file to replace the current file in the preview tab. If you wanted to restore the previous file, you could still hit ALT-O again. So no second preview tab would be necessary.

Are you thinking Alt-O will replace the current file in the preview tab, or are you wanting a second preview tab to open? I don't recall ever seeing two preview tabs open at once in the IDE, so replacing the current file in the preview tab makes sense, so long as you are expecting this.
