Posted - Oct 03 2024 : 07:58:17 AM If I hit Ctrl+F and then type some text, the first character goes in the Find box but then focus is lost, and subsequent characters go in the file that is being edited.
I've had this issue since installing 2024.7. I've now downgraded back to 2024.6 and the issue has gone away.

Is the flashing fully fixed, or are you still seeing it sometimes? We have a couple of people reporting this flashing, so it wasn't just you, but I don't yet know the trigger, and cannot reproduce it so far. So if you have "fixed" it somehow that would be interesting to know.
I can reproduce it like this: A solution is checked out in two places (A and B). Then open a file in solution from A and the same file from B. The display switches between "A project" and "Miscellaneous Files" about every second. |

Same usage and problem for me. I rolled back to 2530 to resolve the issue.
I remove the ShortCut from Edit.IncrementalSearch and assign Ctrl+I additonal to Edit.Find. For me it's looks like it have now the same functionaltiy as the old Edit.IncrementalSearch. So I can use the current VA build. |

Posted - Nov 18 2024 : 05:28:15 AM The problem is not completely solved for me yet. If I use Ctrl+I (Edit.IncrementalSearch), the first character entered is searched for. When the second character is entered, the search field loses focus and I continue typing at the position of the first character found in the text. |

I have found one way to reliably trigger the flashing. I have several solutions which have mirror copies. While the mirror copies are not identical, they contain mostly the same projects and files. I'm finding that if I open a file in the solution that i'm working on and then open the corresponding file from the mirror solution, I get a flashing navigation bar.
Hovering over any file's tab until its tooltip appears stops the flashing. |

Posted - Nov 15 2024 : 8:00:59 PM I'm also having the issue, this should be absolutely urgent, as it makes me, and all other people regred having this. It makes the visual studio practically unusable, when is it going to be fixed? |

Posted - Oct 31 2024 : 11:46:48 AM Looks like this is related to the new project selection dropdown. It constantly switches between "project name" and "miscellaneous files". I did some tricks: rebuild symbol database, clear history, cache and temporary files, unload and reload vs project in solution explorer, restart studio, and blinking is gone. Using 2537 right now.
Is there an option to remove/disable this dropdown from va nav bar? |

Posted - Oct 31 2024 : 08:33:04 AM Do you have any sense of when / why this flashing is happening? We have had a couple of reports of this problem so far, but so far I haven't managed to reproduce the problem here, but I am looking into it.
I have opened a bug report for this, but until I can reproduce it, its going to be tricky to make a lot of progress:

Posted - Oct 30 2024 : 8:43:20 PM Just install 2537. Focus lost is solving. But the problem with blinking VA navigation bar is still here. Have to downgrade to 2530 again. |

Posted - Oct 29 2024 : 09:36:13 AM As you can see from my previous post, I had already installed 2537. I've done it again now and currently no problem. If the error occurs again, I'll let you know. |

Posted - Oct 29 2024 : 08:09:21 AM Just another data point: VA_X_Setup2537_0.exe solved the issue for me as well (Windows 10 Pro, Visual Studio 2022 CE (latest updates)). |

Posted - Oct 29 2024 : 08:03:30 AM I installed VA_X_Setup2537_0.exe and it did solve the focus loosing issue in Ctrl+F searching |

I was just going to post this myself, thank you for letting everyone know . The release notes haven't been posted yet, but this is fixing all of the situations I know that had the focus problem, including the Solution Explorer window:

Can you please specify exactly which version should contain the fix? I followed the link and have now installed the following version: VA_X64.dll file version 10.9.2537.0 built 2024.10.27. This has not solved the problem for me. Can you please note the name of the setup (like VA_X_Setup2451_0.exe)? |

Posted - Oct 28 2024 : 12:54:58 PM Excellent news, thank you for the update. I did run quite a few tests myself, but since the problem was showing up in several different places, I did hope that we got them all. |

Posted - Oct 24 2024 : 07:38:03 AM I am asking for a beta release, and will let people know as soon as I get access to one that reliably fixes this problem.
The focus problem is actually showing up in several places, but obviously most clearly in the CTRL-F dialog. But it also shows up even when VA is disabled, so something strange is going on here. |

Posted - Oct 23 2024 : 5:51:48 PM Ah, so it's the 2024.6. I was wondering which one is the build 2530_0, but the download page doesn't say. Only now I realized the file link is showing that if I hover mouse cursor over the 2024.6 label. Thanks, it's working better with the VA Navigation Bar enabled. I'm still surprised the fix takes so long when it's clear that one of the changes between builds 2503_0 and 2535_0 is causing that.

Posted - Oct 23 2024 : 1:15:43 PM @Woody Yes, it seems to be taking a bit of time, so I guess it's more complicated than we would think. But in the meantime I also switched back to https://wholetomato.com/downloads/getBuild.asp?VA_X_Setup2530_0.exe (Visual Assist Build 2024.6) as some people above mentioned, and that one works fine. Hope this helps for you too... |

Posted - Oct 23 2024 : 10:46:47 AM It's already 20 days since this urgent bug has been reported. Do you have any release date for the fix? Could we get at least a beta build? |
feline |
Posted - Oct 16 2024 : 11:25:41 AM Again apologies for this. We are working on a fix for this, but want the fix to be reliable, since this focus problem is showing up in several spots, although the CTRL-F dialog is definitely the most noticable.
Thank you for confirming that turning off the Navigation bar helped you. We have at least one report of this not helping, but so far I haven't been able to reproduce that particular result. |

Posted - Oct 16 2024 : 11:00:05 AM Running into this same bug here (VS2022 CE, with VA_X64.dll file version 10.9.2535.0 built 2024.09.30). Very annoying indeed... For me, disabling the VA navigation bar seems to work (I enabled the one from Visual Studio itself instead, so there is something at least for now).

Posted - Oct 15 2024 : 04:59:12 AM 2024.5 has a crash that effects some people. If you run into the crash, it can and does happen every few minutes, making it quite devastating. Having said that it only effected some people, other people never seemed to see the crash at all. But I believe this is why the download link was removed, since we don't want people downloading a version with a known crash bug.
Do you actually need to go to this version, and not a different one? VA 2530 avoids the CTRL-F focus bug, and is quite stable. |

Posted - Oct 14 2024 : 9:01:59 PM Is there a reason that build 2024.5 is greyed out on the archive page? Do I need to roll back to 2024.4? Which iirc had other issues? |

Posted - Oct 10 2024 : 11:03:25 AM Thank you for the screen shot. For me, disabling the VA navigation bar is fixing the problem with the CTRL-F dialog. You still have the VA navigation bar enabled in this screen shot.
Hopefully we will have a fix soon. |

Posted - Oct 10 2024 : 08:30:03 AM Here is a screenshot if the focus would be lost. Maybe you can see what you have to turn on to get the issue.
Currently I have downgrade to VA_X_Setup2530_0.exe. We have the issue with VA_X_Setup2535_0.exe.
