I am getting a load VAX failure when I run VS.NET 2003 and VS2005. It loads perfectly OK with EVC3 and EVC4.
I have tried running the regsvr32 command with and without the /u and in both instances it says "DLLRegisterServer in VAssistNet.dll failed - Return Code: 0x80070005
I have checked the FAQ and searced the groups but have not seen an answer to this problem so I thought I would try here.
I have tried reinstalling VAX several times and I am running the latest version as of today. The O/S is M$ Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
Can anyone help with this.

I have re-installed Windows XP and all my compilers and VA X is now up and running.
As a point of interest, after a completely clean install of XP Prof it took just under 2 days for Internet Explorer to crash for the first time. Is this a record :-)
Anyway, I think we can close this thread, and thanks for the help everyone.

Yep, tried that too. Apart from smearing it in honey and sacrificing a chicken I can't think of anything that I haven't tried on this SOB :-)
The PC is running XP Prof with SP2 and as administrator I thought that there was nothing I couldn't do, for better or worse. It would seem that there are some things, but I can't think how or why. God, I hate MS software. More bugs than a cheap motel. But thanks for the help anyway to everyone who has been rteplying. I'm living in hope that someone will say 'Oh, yes, I had that. You need to......' SIGH ******

Well like I said before, as lokal administrator you can alway fix permissions and that definitely looks like a permission problem.
Be sure to check that you don't inherit permissions from a higher node. You might also wan't check "replace perms on all child objects".

Tried it. Same problem. I am using F-Secure AV, but it isn't running in safe mode. Logging in as administrator in safe mode I can do anything with any branch until I get to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Classes branch. I can open/edit any key as long as it is a subkey of the branch with other subkeys. If it is a leaf node it won't open and gives access denied errors. I have an graphic image if I can figure out how to insert it I will upload it. |

Start regeditor, right click on HKLM and adjust permissions.
As local administrator you always can adjust/assign permissions.
Do you have some weirdo AV or personal FW/security suite installed that might blocking registry access? IIRC zonealarm is such a smartass app:)

I think the problem is due to a problem with th HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive in the registry. I have a section of keys in the classes branch that I cannot open or delete. Even as administrator they say that I have not sufficient rights. I have tried starting in safe mode with the same results. I have downloaded a load of so called registry repair programs but none of them have been able to resolve the issue. Unless someone has any suggestions on how to repair a busted registry it looks as if I will have to re-install windows, a task I am not relishing since it takes nearly two days to reinstall all my compilers and tools. Don't you just love Windoze! Meanwhile my PowerMac runs as sweet as an alpine stream, never a hint of O/S problems. I just wish I could move all my development onto it. |

0x80070005 is access denied.
Use regmon ( http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html ) to see what particular reg key fails to be accessed during regsvr32. |

Well I have gone back as far as 1428 and all seem to exhibit the same problem. Can you say why the dll is failing to register. Does the error message have any helpful information? |
