I wanted to test the rename operation on a few simple variables. The first few worked great. But, a couple produced a dialog along the lines of "Unable to rename some instances" or similar..

The find worked just fine so I'm wondering why the replace failed? I wasn't even sure if (or how) I could 'undo' the replace.

My question really is; what does the above message mean? I can understand if the new name conflicted with another name but this wasn't the case..

thanks,
joe

This message happens when VA thinks a symbol is at line:col, but when it goes there to do the modification the symbol was not found.

We assume you are using VC6, any chance you can come up with a reproducible case where this happens?

VC6 does not have "group undo", so you will need to go to each file and undo each change, or you can do a "close all windows" and say no to save on each modified file.

Can you generate a reproducible case in which Rename fails?
