This is in VS.NET 2003 with a C++ solution, and the tooltips that I'm talking about are the VAX intellisense tooltips that appear when you hover over a symbol.

So at some point today, something must have "went screwy" and now when I hover over a symbol, the tooltip outline appears but it is completely transparent - there is nothing in the little square that should contain the declaration of the symbol. All other functions of VAX seem to be working fine - if I click on the symbol, VA View updates correctly; if I place the cursor inside the symbol and do Go-to-implementation, that works as well (well, it works as well as it does normally). Also, if I mouse over a symbol when debugging, the value of the symbol [if in scope] appears as well.

I tried clearing the cache files, rebuilding the symbol database, several restarts of VS.NET [after making sure that the process was indeed gone in task manager], but I'm still getting transparent tooltips. It's starting to drive me batty.

Has anyone heard of this before? Are there any other "secret" files that VAX uses that I could possibly be the culprit?

Yes, after a reboot tooltips were back to normal.

People were complaining about the tooltips covering their code, so we added that feature

The only guess I have is that somehow, the colors got changed. You mention restarts of the IDE, how about the machine? Long shot...
