I noticed that opening the OFIW dialog is very slow in my project. This seemes to be caused by the number of open files.
If I have 150 open files, it takes 5 seconds to open the OFIW dialog (100% CPU usage). With all files closed, this takes less than a second.

Some more info:
Files in workspace: ~7500
VA_X.dll file version 10.3.1540.0 built 2006.10.27
VAOpsWin.dll version 1.3.3.7
VATE.dll version 1.0.5.9
DevEnv.exe version 8.0.50727.42
msenv.dll version 8.0.50727.42
Font: Courier New 18(Pixels)
Comctl32.dll version 6.0.2900.2982
Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2
Single processor

regards,
eli

I never hibernate, but oulook runs all the time.
Also notice that I did not reboot my PC, just recreated the solution and restarted the IDE.
I also deleted the ncb file, but since intellisense is disabled, it was almost empty.

but the problem is solved, so I'm happy :-)

Do you hibernate your workstation, or leave it powered on?

I have had problems with hibernating a machine while the IDE and Microsoft Outlook were both running. After about a week the machine became unusably slow and rebooting fixed it. I never was able to pin down the cause of the problem, but some programs, Outlook included did not like being left running while the machine was hibernated.

Having said that I can hibernate and restore my home machine without any sign of problems, but I am not running Outlook here, and there are no network issues to complicate the situation either.

I can no longer reproduce this: I re-created the sln file, restarted the IDE and the problem was fixed. Maybe it has something to do with my habit of keeping the IDE always open (several days).
Maybe I should learn to restart my environment in the morning.

Anyway, sorry for the trouble and thanks,
eli

Most odd. Are these open files all code files? Do you have form designers, or anything else "odd" open?

Using VS2005 and VA 1540 I have tried with a solution of about 3,500 files, and with 1 cpp file open OFIW appears basically instantly.

I have opened about 160 code files (a mix of .h and .cpp files) and now OFIW is taking nearly a second to open, which is still very fast, and there is no sign of any CPU spike when I do this.

Do you have any other plugin's installed?
When you open the OFIW dialog is there an existing search filter to apply, or are you seeing all of the files?

It is possible I need to construct a larger solution, but I would have expected this solution was large enough to show this problem.
