Posted - Dec 01 2006 : 2:04:30 PM When the autocomplete menu comes up, I would like it to stay there unless I press Escape or click the mouse. Instead, it goes away fairly quickly. Sometimes just as i'm about to select an item, it becomes hidden. Is there a way to change this behavior? |

Posted - Jan 18 2007 : 1:38:28 PM Using VS2005 SP1, VA 1544 running on win2k SP4 I have opened a test project with a 180 line file cpp file.
Due to the resolution I am using only the first 30 lines of the file are visible. I reloaded the IDE and placed the caret at line one of the file and then left the IDE alone for about 10 minutes.
I then used CTRL-END to jump to the bottom of the file, went up a couple of lines, and placed the caret at the end of a line of code. I pressed ENTER, typed "if" and the autotext listbox appeared. After 2 or 3 seconds the status bar flashed the comment about re-parsing the file, but there was no impact on the listbox.
Have I missed something obvious, or does this sound like what you are doing? |

Posted - Jan 18 2007 : 06:52:48 AM Following the steps above I can MAKE it happen 100%. In everyday use it catches me around 5% of the time, maybe more. As time goes on it is becoming more annoying to the point where I will now often ignore auto complete and just type, as the time wasted fixing the problem is longer than the accumulation of time it takes to type. |

Posted - Jan 17 2007 : 12:24:24 PM AdyR looking back over this thread I was never able to reproduce your problem that the status bar update causes the autotext listbox to disappear.
How easily can you reproduce this with VA 1543? |

Posted - Jan 17 2007 : 06:51:57 AM I am still seeing the same problem with build 1543. |

Posted - Dec 19 2006 : 3:08:13 PM Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, I have been very busy. How easily are you able to reproduce this problem using the instructions you gave me a few posts up? Is this is a 50% chance or 5% chance? It effects how many times I need to try this before reaching any conclusions about it.
Is the IDE's intellisense enabled or disabled on your system? Its intellisense parser *may* be having an effect here, but that does sound rather unlikely. |

Thank you for the clear instructions. I see the same status bar update, in the same timescale, but for me the autotext list stays visible.
Which IDE and version of VA are you using? |

Posted - Dec 07 2006 : 2:45:39 PM A bug where a listbox would appear and then immediately disappear has been fixed in the next build. Hopefully this will help with at least some of these problems.
case=3928
code42 I am not having any success with reproducing this bug using alt-o |

Posted - Dec 06 2006 : 09:50:57 AM I can make it happen on demand but it only catches me out around 5% of the time. To make it happen: I move down the document to a part of the code that has not been on screen for a while; Set the cursor at the end of a line; Hit return; Type G?ifG? and the autotext list appears; Wait for about 1 to 5 seconds, I see something like G?VAX ParsingG?G? flash in the status bar and the autotext disappears. If I pause for a few seconds after hitting return so I see the G?VAX ParsingG?G? flash up then the list remains on screen, even when the next G?VAX ParsingG? G? message flashes up.

Posted - Dec 05 2006 : 1:13:42 PM I just did a little testing. I make good use of the swap header/source functionality. If I swap to the source file, and then quickly type something that causes the suggestion list to come up, it usually will dissapear quickly.

Posted - Dec 04 2006 : 1:46:56 PM With autotext enabled you should get an autotext suggestion when you type "if", it has an 'A' icon. This assumes you are using something similar to the default set of autotext rules.
I have seen these disappear myself, but it is very rare for me. How often does this happen for you? 50% of the time? Less? More?
Clearly something is going on here, but finding out the trigger could be a little difficult. |

Posted - Dec 04 2006 : 10:31:11 AM This happens to me as well for both suggestions and completions. Often I will type say "If" and the completion list will appear but disappears just before I press enter so I get a new line instead of the completion text. I wasn't sure if this was since a new version of VA or since I got a new PC so I hadn't mentioned it before but as others now have I thought I should.

Posted - Dec 04 2006 : 09:42:54 AM when people are seeing this, is it only with suggestion listboxes (they have question mark icons) or with completion listboxes (they appear after CTRL-SPACE) as well?
accord, the list disappearing on VA reparsing the file sounds like a sensible suggestion / working theory, I will ask about this
code42 I am bothered that this was happening all of the time for you. Hopefully it stays fixed! |

Posted - Dec 04 2006 : 06:02:50 AM I can confirm this too. It disappears sometimes while I move the selection inside it. Although I wasn't able to repoduce it. |

Posted - Dec 02 2006 : 1:24:52 PM I'm using vs2005, and the latest release of VA. At this very moment, everything is working well. However, last time I was working, the menu was closing on me each time it came up automatically -- after 1 to 5 seconds. When I pressed cntrl-space to bring the menu up, it seemed to stay. Sorry I don't have any concrete pattern, just seeing if anyone knew a solution. I'll keep my eye on it and let you know if I figure out when it is more likely to happen. |

Posted - Dec 01 2006 : 7:02:10 PM I see the same thing here occasionally. Isn't it happen when VAX reparses the file? I have seen this more than once (the reparsing text disappearing very fast so I do not see always)
Does it make sense?

Posted - Dec 01 2006 : 4:02:27 PM Does this happen all of the time, or just occasionally? I have seen this occasionally myself, but so far no pattern. The listbox should stay there once it has appeared.
