I just updated to 1548 and I am very happy to see that the files that must be changed moved to the user folders. So VA-X seams to be Vista UAC aware.
Just one Question remains:
I have still some folders in my C:\\Program Files\\ folder for VAX.
Autotext
Misc\\Tmp
Are this just leftovers of an old installation? Can I delete them?

My initial reaction would be no. I open source code from a range of different directories, both local and network, and never see these directories appearing unexpectedly. Having said that I never open code from the desktop, so it is possible the desktop is being treated differently.
Can you try running FileMon
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Filemon.mspx
and filtering it to show you these directories on the desktop. This way you can leave it running, without getting a massive log file. This should list details of the creation of these directories, so we will know which process is making them, when it happens, etc.
It probably is VA making them, but off hand I don't know why it should be. |

C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 8
I have c and d drives, both coming from a partition of one hard drive, c is used for installing programs, d is used for data. We have a mapped z drive which is a shared drive from a server.
That's all. There is nothing immediately out of the ordinary to make me think there is a problem, yet I do get the folders reappearing every so often.
Could it be that sometimes, if I were to download some source code from the Internet to the desktop, then would opening the code from that location create the folders? |

Nothing odd or unusual there.
Where did you install VS2005?
Does your machine have several local drives or only one?
Have you used subst to create new, mapped drive letters?
I am searching for anything odd or unusual that might help to explain this odd behaviour. |

Which OS and IDE are you using?
What anti-virus are you running?
Do you have any othe plugins installed in the IDE?
I am wondering if something on your machine is interfering with / confusing VA somehow. |

For some reason after installing 1549, I now every so often get the autotext, dict and misc folders appearing on my desktop! Any idea why? It was a typical install to default location: "C:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X". The folders are empty and seem like they can be deleted ok but give it a few days and they reappear again  |

Misc\\Tmp can be deleted.
Autotext\\Saved can be deleted.
Autotext\\Latest is still used - this is where the installer puts autotext files (copied to each user's personal directory if they allow).
