When using the Envy Code R Font (http://www.damieng.com/blog/2007/08/19/envy-code-r-preview-6-released-with-visual-studio-italics) and the "Local Symbols in Bold" option is enabled, the local symbols show up as the wrong characters. Not sure if this is a font issue or a Visual Assist X issue.

The official fix for this bug is post VA 1611

Plus 1611 was never officially posted, so use at your own risk

feline, the latest build (1611) seems to have fixed the issue with the matching bracket and the mathcing parenthesis, altough It did create other artifacts.

Please see the following thread: http://forum.wholetomato.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6811

Sasa this bug was put in specifically for problems with bold text and the matching brackets.

Make sure you download the latest version of the font (PR 6.1) as I had to decompose the brackets to fix a problem with Java rendering that could also be affected?

Feline, does the case 8929 cover also the "highlight matching {} and ()?

With this font when it tries to highlight the {} I get garbage charactes, and when it highligts the () they disappear.

Thanks.

Thank you very much Damien, much appreciated.

Which colour scheme are you referring to, a number of them are schemes from elsewhere.

Hey DamienG, nice work on that font.

Looking at that blog of yours, would it be possible for you to share with us the color scheme featured in this screen shot? I really like your colors.

Thanks.

"Envy Code R" consists of three styles, regular, bold and italic.

"Envy Code R VS" is "Envy Code R" renamed and contains the regular style as normal but also the italic version of the font with all the header information set as bold so that any application trying to use "Envy Code R VS" in bold will in fact end up rendering italic.

This was done to allow italics in the Visual Studio syntax editor (at the expense of not providing bold).

Thanks, I'll try again when the next beta build is out.

We think we have this fixed internally, and the fix should show up in the next beta version of VA.

I'm using 1609 now and both fonts show the corruption. I tried switching back and forth a few times but it never went away.

I have seen VS2005 have "problems" using the correct font file, as mentioned in the FAQ item for Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. So it is possible that VS2005 is using "Envy Code R VS" even though I have selected "Envy Code R" in the font dialog.

*ah* now that's interesting, and unexpected. "Envy Code R VS" has just started working correctly for me in VS2005.

I was moving back and forward between the two font's in the IDE's option dialog, applying them, trying to see any visual difference between them. After doing this a couple of times bold text just started working while using the "Envy Code R VS" font. It is still failing with the "Envy Code R" font.

mmcculli can you try this on your system and see if it helps?

DamienG the two fonts look identical to me, based on a casual comparison of a couple of screen shots. I don't know if they are supposed to or not, but that is what I am seeing here.

Envy Code R is a normal font set, I think mmcculli is using the "Envy Code R VS" version which consists of just two styles, regular and one drawn as italics but marked as bold to get round the VisualStudio editors aversion to italics.

I'm not sure why VA produces this random text - I would expect the "Local Symbols in Bold" option to use the 'italics as bold' style. In any case an actual bold would not be obtainable as it's place is already taken by the italic.

I am seeing the same effect here. Thank you for the clear description.

case=8929

No idea if it is a VA or font problem, but I have put in a bug report to see if it is us. For now you may find the Bitstream Vera Sans Mono font useful:
