Posted - Mar 02 2008 : 05:25:27 AM I'm using VS2008 and I have the demo version of VA 1626 installed. Syntax hilighting and Ctrl+Space suggestions listbox seem to be working, but all of the automatic editor-specific functionality seems to be disabled: I'm getting no suggestions at all (not even when I type the indirection characters . or -> (they're also not getting corrected if I type the wrong one)) and very apparent spelling errors (or any other errors for that matter) aren't underlined in the IDE. Like I said, Ctrl+Space does seem to be working though.
Things that I've done/tried:
- repairing VS - uninstalling and reinstalling VS (!) - uninstalling and reinstalling VAX - purging the project's temp files (obj, exe's) and rebuilding - rebuilding Intellisense (deleting the nbc file, also combined with purging the intermediates) - rebuilding the VAX cache - restarting after uninstalls/reinstalls - everything else I can't even think of
Note that default Intellisense does work if I enable it from VAX options. Also - the VA view looks a bit sparse - should it show all of the files in the solution? Because it only shows the current one.
Ideas/solutions would be welcome.

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up. Maybe they will offer some clues. I don't know what to make of your description of what is happening. |

Yep.
Syntax hilighting works just fine.
>> Are you able to load the VA options dialog?
Yes.
>> What directory are your test projects located in?
C:/Projects
>> Are you using custom file extensions for your code?
No, just .cpp and .h
>> sounds like you are not seeing them.
I am seeing them - I just thought they were a part of VS. Although: their behavior seems to be weird (maybe I'm confusing them with something else). Unfortunately I can't post a screenshot, but I have four bars when the Navigation Bar is enabled:
- a scope field (a dropdown that shows "(global)", and other scopes in the file (works) - a function field that shows functions in that scope (works) - a field that looks like the VA context field, but doesn't change based on where I am (as shown under the link you posted). I can use the dropdown to navigate from function to function though. When I use it to navigate, it jumps back to display a default position of eg "main.cpp" (which is the name of the file). It does not reflect the position of the caret. - a bar that has a "Go" button next to it that seems to be empty at all times, but otherwise looks like the definition field
When I disable the Navigation Bar, the two first bars are removed which sort of goes to say that the VAX fields are there, but aren't really functioning as intended.
Note that I had some registry trouble a while ago and I did end up using some rather drastic (manual) measures. I have since reinstalled VS and repeatedly reinstalled VAX. One reason I can think of is if either VS or VAX assumes a field in the registry exists based on the presence of some other field, which might be around residually even after an uninstall. The registry issues were not related to VS or VAX though, but some adware. |

The context and definition fields I am talking about are these:

and it sounds like you are not seeing them. |

If you mean the file scope and scope element fields, then yes and they seem to be working just fine.
And to get a little bit ahead of myself: VAX doesn't work in any project, old or newly created, small or large file (I don't even have truly large files). |

Can you please go to:
VA Options -> System Info -> Copy Info
and paste the details (from the clipboard) into this thread. This will give us the basic information about your setup.
Are you seeing the VA context and definition fields at the top of the editor? This assumes that you have turned them on in VA options. |
