Posted - Jul 01 2008 : 05:31:30 AM Hi,
I'm currently evaluating VAX 1640 on a number of my machines and I occassionnally had a Gentee.dll error during the installation phase making the installer crash.
You can see the error message here : http://img389.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vaerrormt4.gif
I've looked up what Gentee was and found out it was an open-source programming language, which I assume is used by the setup system you use (unless you wrote your own, specific one ?)
It doesn't seem that the Gentee.dll used by the installer is the latest version found from their website, so maybe using the newer dll would fix the problem ?
Also, are there any switches for unattended installation, which would make it great for medium to large rollout in development teams.
Thanks. |

Posted - Jul 02 2008 : 2:43:08 PM We use CreateInstall for our installers. I see there are some updates, so I'll look into updating the installer.
thanks. |

Posted - Jul 02 2008 : 04:47:31 AM Hi,
Thanks for your answer. If you need me to test the new setup package to check if the problem is gone, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Also, by the way, is your setup tool Ghost Installer ? If so, please can you consider adding support for unattended installations ? ( for more details, please see : http://unattended.sourceforge.net/installers.php#ghost )
Thanks. |

Posted - Jul 01 2008 : 7:41:34 PM Yes, our installer creation tool uses the gentee scripting language under the hood, and gentee.dll is the runtime engine used during installation.
I'll check if there are any updates for that tool.
thanks.

Posted - Jul 01 2008 : 11:52:39 AM Hi Feline and thanks for your answer.
The gentee.dll is temporarily created by the VAX installer (probably for its own purpose). Once the VAX setup exits, the file is deleted by the setup program. However, it sometimes crashes during the installation.
It isn't a bug in VAX... but a bug in the installer, caused by a bug in Gentee.dll itself.
Please see these two pictures for references of Gentee.dll inside the VAX installer : http://img61.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gentee01dd0.gif http://img353.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gentee02sm6.gif
I assume it is used by the setup development software you use to build VAX installers ?
Thanks. |

Posted - Jul 01 2008 : 10:26:45 AM I do not recognise "Gentee.dll". If you do a find on one of the machines that has this problem is this file found anywhere on the machine? If so where?
I have searched on two of my test machines, and there is no sign of this dll anywhere. |
