case=18813 is fixed in build 1707

My settings were initially different, as well, but setting those registry values mentioned earlier didn't fix it for me.

Killing the entire HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\VisualStudio tree, however, did.

Very interesting. I am glad you managed to get this working, and thank you for the details. I have added them to:

case=18813

A bug report I put in for another user seeing a very similar problem.

After uninstalling and reinstalling 1646 again, and resetting Visual Studio fonts and colors, coloring started working in all installations except VS 2005. When run as Administrator, however, the colors were fine. I ended up exporting the VS settings for Administrator, deleting my current settings, and importing Administrator's settings. This time, font and color resetting worked and VA coloring started working.

The important difference between my original settings and the new ones is that the new ones have:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\VisualStudio\\8.0\\FontAndColors\\{A27B4E24-A735-4D1D-B8E7-9716E1E3D8E0}]
"Identifier Foreground"=dword:00010001
"Identifier Background"=dword:00fffeff

When I changed only these settings in my old configuration, everything started working.

I appear to have figured out what my problem was...

I didn't try resetting the Format options of Visual Studio itself, all I was trying to do, was resetting the default colors for Visual Assist.

Lo & behold! As soon as I reset the format options, my syntax coloring came back... Silly me.

Can you please export your VA and IDE settings and send them to me:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings

The settings for VC6 are stored in the registry under the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\DevStudio\\6.0\
So can you also use Regedit to export this part of the registry.

If you do this for the problem user I can then try importing them here and see if I can reproduce the problem.

Please submit the files via the form:

http://www.wholetomato.com/support/contact.asp

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up.

These tests were done with VA 1640, which is what is listed in your about info, but your post lists VA 1646.

Firstly, it doesn't appear to matter what version I use. It's just that I was using VA 1640 when the problem first occurred. I have tried using VA 1646 (as well as older versions), but it doesn't appear to make any difference which one I choose.

It happened just as I described... I changed the desktop color scheme (the same way as you) where VA syntax coloring was working, and then it wasn't. In the past, when this has happened, I have tried the trick of resetting the colors back to 'default', which usually solved the problem... But not this time.

All the other coloring features seem to work fine.

It would now appear, if you have installed SP3, then proceed to change your display theme, you cannot get your syntax coloring back.

As soon as I changed the color scheme on the login where this worked in Visual Studio, now it doesn't.

Short of removing SP3 now, I cannot see another way of getting the syntax coloring back, which is a bit of a bug-bear without it.

I'm having the same problems, but only when I log on as a particular user. Which ever version I use, I cannot get the syntax coloring to work. I have used all the usual tricks to reinstate the coloring, including re-installing various older versions of Visual Assist.

However, even though I've updated to Windows XP SP3, and using the latest version of Visual Assist (build 1646), I can get syntax coloring to work happily, when I log on as a different user.

Both logins have administrator privileges on the PC.

It does appear though, as this problem has occurred after installing the latest XP service pack. I am using the older Visual Studio v6.

Can you please go to:

VA Options -> System Info -> Copy Info

and paste the details (from the clipboard) into your reply. This will give us the basic information about your setup.

Do you have any other IDE plugin's installed?

Hi,
I'm seeing the same problem here, even after following your suggestion.

OS: Windows XP SP3
Visual Studio 98 - 2008

I tried different builds, and the last one that works for me is 1632. Coloring doesn't work in any of the newer ones.

Can you try pressing the button:

IDE tools menu -> Options -> Environment -> Fonts and Colors -> Use Defaults

This should fix the problem you are seeing.
