The Edit Snippets dialog does not show any snippets in the list and no snippets appear in the auto complete list.

case=18574 is fixed in build 1646

Workaround is to include the trailing directory delimiter in the UserDataDir value:
UserDataDir="D:\\VisualAssistCache\\"

Sorry - that advice was mistaken - there is no workaround for UserDataDir.

This regression is due to a bug in the handling of UserDataDir in 1645.

Can you post the full directory name where you are seeing the tpl files please. Does this path contain any extended or Unicode characters? Paths containing Unicode characters stopping Snippets from working is fixed in VA 1645, so I am wondering if this fix is related to your problem.

Can you run filemon, filter it to show activity on the tpl files please:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx

and then load the IDE with VA 1645 installed. Hopefully this will give us some clues as to what is going on here.

Platform and OS info below, should have included before. The tpl files are in the correct location and are fine. The feature has worked fine for me in all other builds. I can't check if I can add snippets because I have reverted back to 1640.

Which IDE are you using?
Which OS are you using?
Did this used to work in previous versions of VA?

Do the tpl files have any content? This FAQ entry tells you where they should be located:

Can you add new snippets via the Snippet editor dialog?
