Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 07:46:54 AM I am using an alternate cache location by setting the UserDataDir registry key to D:\\VisualAssistCache
Version 1645 creates a new folder D:\\VisualAssistCache_1
Why?

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 12:04:21 PM Workaround - include the trailing directory delimiter: UserDataDir="D:\\VisualAssistCache\\"
Sorry - that advice was mistaken - there is no workaround for UserDataDir. |

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 12:01:51 PM This regression is due to a bug in the handling of UserDataDir in 1645. case=18574
What you were supposed to be seeing is: D:\\VisualAssistCache D:\\VisualAssistCache\\v9 D:\\VisualAssistCache\\v9_1

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 11:16:51 AM I see the same directory name when running just one instance of the IDE. The _1 seems to indicate IDE number 1. I have also generated _2 and _3 directories on one of my test systems. |

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 10:50:51 AM But... I wasn't running 2 copies at the time. I do regularly do that but not when I noticed this. I can't be sure that there wasn't an old copy of devenv.exe running at the time. I will reinstall 1645, reboot the PC and check.

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 10:19:36 AM VA 1645 contains this change:
When running multiple instances of the same IDE, each instance maintains its own symbol database to address several reported concurrency issues. (case=12157)
this is where the extra directory has come from. If you start running multiple instances of the IDE at once further directories will be created. |
