Posted - Sep 29 2008 : 10:12:53 AM I just renewed my license in the hopes that the issue would be fixed with 1649 but it isn't.
If I roll back to VA 1638 syntax highlighting works again. this, delete is highlighted blue as if Visual studio was highlighting it. Everything else looks like variable, function names, enum members, defines etc.
I've tried disabling/reenabling, tried changing the default colours in vax with no effect. VA View works correctly as does VA find, so do list boxes etc.
Only the editor does not.
Thanks

Posted - Oct 24 2008 : 2:32:56 PM Thank you for these files. I am seeing the same problem. I have trimmed the problem registry file down to just:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\DevStudio\\6.0\\Format\\Source Window] "Text"=hex:00,00,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,13,01,b3,00 "Keyword"=hex:00,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,10,00,11,00 "Comment"=hex:ff,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,10,00,11,00
and I am still seeing the problem. I think the problem is that these registry values are "corrupt". This sets the colours in the VC6 options dialog to:
Text = Automatic, Automatic Keyword = Blue, Automatic Comment = Magenta, Automatic
the working registry file also shows the same settings in the VC6 options dialog, so the differences in the registry files are causing the problems, but not actually achieving anything useful in VC6. |

Posted - Oct 22 2008 : 12:58:23 PM Would you be able to send me these two registry key files? This way I can simply import them directly into a test system, and it avoids turning your post back into reg files manually.
Please submit the files via the form:
http://www.wholetomato.com/support/contact.asp
including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up.
We have made some changes internally to fix a couple of colouring bugs, so it is possible that will help. |

Yes. Syntax highlighting starts working after "Reset All".
I've made some experiments with settings and found that it is not working with that: ================= [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\DevStudio\\6.0\\Format\\Source Window] "Text"=hex:00,00,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,13,01,b3,00 "Text Selection"=hex:e3,e3,e3,00,00,00,00,00,19,00,19,00 "Current Error/Tag"=hex:ff,ff,ff,00,00,00,80,00,d2,01,b2,01 "Bookmark"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,ff,ff,00,10,00,10,00 "Breakpoint"=hex:ff,ff,ff,00,80,00,00,00,10,00,10,00 "Current Statement"=hex:00,00,00,00,ff,ff,00,00,70,00,70,00 "Selection Margin"=hex:d4,d0,c8,00,d4,d0,c8,00,13,00,13,00 "Keyword"=hex:00,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,10,00,11,00 "Comment"=hex:ff,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,10,00,11,00 "Number"=hex:ff,00,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,10,00,11,00 "String"=hex:00,80,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,10,00,11,00 "Operator"=hex:00,00,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,11,00,11,00 "Wizard IDL/ODL Code"=hex:80,80,80,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Element Name"=hex:80,00,80,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Attribute Name"=hex:ff,00,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Attribute Value"=hex:00,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Comment"=hex:00,80,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Entity"=hex:ff,00,00,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Tag Delimiter"=hex:00,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML String"=hex:00,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Tag Text"=hex:ff,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Operator"=hex:00,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Server-Side Script"=hex:00,00,00,00,ff,ff,00,00,14,00,14,00 "Wizard Code"=hex:80,80,80,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 "User Defined Keywords"=hex:00,00,ff,00,e3,e3,e3,00,14,00,15,00 ================= ... and it is working with that: ================= [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\DevStudio\\6.0\\Format\\Source Window] "Text"=hex:00,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,00,13,01,b3,00 "Text Selection"=hex:ff,ff,ff,00,00,00,00,00,19,00,19,00 "Current Error/Tag"=hex:ff,ff,ff,00,00,00,80,00,d2,01,b2,01 "Bookmark"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,ff,ff,00,10,00,10,00 "Breakpoint"=hex:ff,ff,ff,00,80,00,00,00,10,00,10,00 "Current Statement"=hex:00,00,00,00,ff,ff,00,00,70,00,70,00 "Selection Margin"=hex:d4,d0,c8,00,d4,d0,c8,00,13,00,13,00 "Keyword"=hex:00,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,10,00,11,00 "Comment"=hex:ff,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,10,00,11,00 "Number"=hex:ff,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,00,10,00,11,00 "String"=hex:00,80,00,00,ff,ff,ff,00,10,00,11,00 "Operator"=hex:00,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,00,11,00,11,00 "Wizard IDL/ODL Code"=hex:80,80,80,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Element Name"=hex:80,00,80,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Attribute Name"=hex:ff,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Attribute Value"=hex:00,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Comment"=hex:00,80,00,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Entity"=hex:ff,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Tag Delimiter"=hex:00,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML String"=hex:00,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Tag Text"=hex:ff,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Operator"=hex:00,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "HTML Server-Side Script"=hex:00,00,00,00,ff,ff,00,00,14,00,14,00 "Wizard Code"=hex:80,80,80,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 "User Defined Keywords"=hex:00,00,ff,00,ff,ff,ff,00,14,00,15,00 =================

Posted - Oct 16 2008 : 06:42:20 AM Hello.
Syntax Highlighting does not work at all in VC6 (sp6). Background colors change in VC options (as was made by dinkai) does not help. =(
Hence it is working fine in VA_X Build 1626.
Thanks.

Posted - Oct 02 2008 : 09:13:20 AM Hi Feline, if I try to change the text editor background color to any color than default, syntax highlighting stops working and the background color does not actually change, it's still the default.
When I restart visual studios the background color is changed and I have to use the fix in this post
http://docs.wholetomato.com?W141
to fix syntax highlighting. So long story short I'm good now :)
|
feline |
Posted - Oct 02 2008 : 07:13:14 AM In the IDE options which items are you changing, and what colour are you changing them to? After you have made these changes have you tried restarting the IDE?
This should not cause VA syntax highlighting to stop. Quite a few of our users work with a custom background colour in the IDE and VA syntax highlighting works for them. |
dinkai |
Posted - Oct 01 2008 : 08:10:14 AM Hi Feline, this is only an issue if I do it through visual studio options. If I do it through windows control panel, so long as the background in VS is set to default then it works.
|
feline |
Posted - Oct 01 2008 : 05:58:43 AM That is not supposed to happen. I have often tested VA with a different background colour. The only thing you should have to watch for is the wrong background colour on some keywords, and the fix is given in this FAQ entry:
http://docs.wholetomato.com?W141
How are you changing the background colour? Are you doing this from Windows control panel, so that it effects all programs, or are you doing this within the IDE options? |
dinkai |
Posted - Sep 30 2008 : 2:58:41 PM Neither am I, changing my background colour causes the editor windows syntax highlighting to stop working. |
feline |
Posted - Sep 30 2008 : 2:28:32 PM Strange, I am not sure why you had this problem, but I am glad it is now fixed. |

Posted - Sep 30 2008 : 09:16:09 AM Hi, no luck, my text editor background is now back to the default but everything else looks the same. Tried disabling/reenabling vax and restarting visual studio, no change.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled 1649 and that resolved the issue.
Thanks |

Posted - Sep 30 2008 : 07:44:32 AM This FAQ on pictures should help:
http://docs.wholetomato.com?W128
Can you try:
IDE tools menu -> Options -> Environment -> Fonts and Colors -> Use Defaults
Normally this fixes the problem where there is no VA syntax highlighting in the editor window. |
dinkai |
Posted - Sep 29 2008 : 10:59:39 AM Hi, syntax highlighting does not work at all besides visual studios default. Whether I enable or disable VA's syntax highlighting my editor window does not change.
Do you have a way I can submit an attachment?
Thanks |

Posted - Sep 29 2008 : 10:55:31 AM I am not sure what problem you are seeing. What is going wrong in the latest version of VA?
You mention "this" and "delete", are they coloured correctly in the latest version of VA, or are they coloured incorrectly? |
