Hi,

when VAX 1711 is loaded in VC6 SP6 on my Vista x64 machine at work the list of Fonts is empty when using Tools->Options->Format

I had that problem in an earlier 17xx beta build and could resolve it by renaming hkcu\\software\\microsoft\\devstudio\\6.0

VC6 recreates that key on startup. The font list is working again.

I add the Addins\\VisualAssist.DSAddin.1 sub key to get VAX loaded again. After I restarted VC6 with VAX loaded the font list is empty again.

This happens only on my work machine with Vista x64. At home I have a laptop running Vista x86 where the fonts do show in VC6 with VAX 1711 enabled.

Does anybody else see this problem on Vista x64 with VC6 (SP6) and VAX 1711?

I am using the Visual Studio 6 setup to install VC6 - so I do not know if maybe a standalone VC6 setup has additional issues.

You typically get compatibility warnings when starting the VS6 setup.exe but those can be ignored. I seem to remember a setup error due to the setup trying to install an old Java VM. IIRC that Java VM check/installation step can be "skipped" by directly executing acmboot.exe which lives in the same directory as setup.exe of VS6.

I applied the latest service pack which is SP6 - which gives incompatibility warnings as well but installs never the less.

Some of our developers have had problems getting VC6 to install under Vista, I am not sure they ever actually succeeded. This seems to be quite a common problem, I found numerous reports of this when I did a web search to find out what the official incompatibilities with Vista are. I never did find a list, but "cannot actually install" would be a fairly significant one *sigh*

Good to see that you can reproduce this behavior.

I managed to change the font by directly editing the font name in the registry. So I have a work around.

Even if it is related to Vista x64, the empty font list in VC6 only occurs when VAX is loaded. Its only a minor issue to me and I use VC6 only on two old projects - so if it can be fixed easily it would be nice, otherwise I can live with it.

I am seeing the same problem - all of the fonts are missing, on a Vista 64bit virtual machine with VC6 and VA 1649 *sigh*

"silly" question time, do you need to change the font in VC6 on Vista 64bit?

I assume you know that VC6 is not officially supported by Microsoft on Vista, let alone Vista 64bit? Clearly the OS is a factor here, maybe a big factor.

Just in case it helps: I started VC6 with VAX logging enabled on my Vista x64 machine. This is the content of va.log after I started VC6 (as admin), opened the Options-Dialog, choose Format-Tab, open the (empty) font combobox and closed VC6 again - MadHook2 sounds interesting ;-)
