Posted - Jan 28 2009 : 09:17:05 AM Hi, I have experienced high CPU load several times. Hard to say why. It just happens. Mostly when I am debugging and start to edit source. I do have screenshots from ProcessExplorer showing stack of top high threads within devenv.exe. Anyone interested, if so, where can I drop it?

Posted - Feb 04 2009 : 5:10:07 PM We have had occasional problems with network shares, which we can rule out in this case, which is something. |

Posted - Feb 04 2009 : 03:55:31 AM F is a local drive, another partition on software RAID-0. Quite fast. I'll try to get minidump if possible. |

Posted - Jan 29 2009 : 10:19:45 AM I have the screen shots, thank you for these.
Given how long the CPU "spike" lasts we can probably ignore the IDE intellisense parser.
Can you try upgrading to VA 1715 please and see if this makes any difference?

If you still see the problem instead of screen shots can you select all of the lines in the stack window and use the Copy button, and send me / post the text please? This makes it easier to look up the functions, without re-tying the names from the screen shot.
Is F drive a local drive or some form of network drive?
Can you try disabling IncrediBuild and see if you still get this problem? Quite a few of our users use IncrediBuild so it should not be a problem, but it would be nice to eliminate it as a factor. |

Posted - Jan 29 2009 : 05:51:58 AM Hi. I was not waiting that long (20 minutes) to find out how long, for sure more than 10 minutes. I was able to make snapshots during that time even though my machine was hardly able to respond to my actions. After all I had to kill IDE. -- Just posted the screenshots. |

Posted - Jan 28 2009 : 2:33:09 PM Does this tend to happen when editing large files, or header files? I am wondering if it could be the IDE's intellisense parser causing this.
How long do these CPU "spikes" last? 2 seconds? 30 seconds? 20 minutes?
Are there any messages on the IDE status bar about file parsing or updating intellisense to give a clue?
The pictures, they are worth a look Please submit the files via the form:
