If I place the cursor after the - in the regular expression and type the additional ) which is missing, VAX will jump over the existing one instead of adding an additional one.

Posted - Jul 12 2009 : 7:41:40 PM This is because Visual Assist puts closing parentheses automatically: you type (| and get (|) where | represents the caret. After that typing Apple+Banana)| will result in (Apple+Banana)| instead of (Apple+Banana)|). So Visual Assist overwrites the ) to avoid unnecessary closing parentheses. So it tries to figure out what to do, but this isn't always unambiguous.
You can turn off
VA Options -> Advanced -> Corrections -> Insert () and closing })]'"
