When I set a breakpoint in a C# project the background color of the whole line becomes suddenly blue. The text is very hard to read now. When the breakpoint is reached the background is yellow. How can I disable or change the blue background color?

I certainly hope that this will fix the problem. If you still have the problem then this will suggest that there is another factor at work, perhaps a utility you use on your system, that is encouraging the problem.

I have changed the colour for "Task List Shortcut" and this work for me. I don't know exactly, but I have installed an very old build from 2005. In the next few weeks I will get a new SSD and I will start with a clean installation of Windows and Visual Studio. I suppose that the problem will be gone then.

Do you remember if you have used any previous versions of VA that did not have this problem?

Do any of your colleges use VA? I am wondering if this is a machine specific problem.

Is changing the colour for "Task List Shortcut" a usable work around for now?

We still have not been able to reproduce this internally, and to be honest we have no good ideas as to the cause of this problem.
phunkydizco Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 03:57:31 AM
I have installed VA Version 10.5.1724.0 built 2009.05.01 but the problem is still there.
feline Posted - Aug 25 2009 : 2:41:06 PM
Can you try installing VA 1724 over the top of 1727 and see if this makes any difference? You can download older builds of VA from this page:

http://www.wholetomato.com/support/history.asp

The changes to how drawing worked were introduced in 1727, which is where the effect with VS2005 SP1 shows up, so if this is a factor then you might get the correct colour in this version.

You can just reinstall 1727 or 1731 over the top after this test to return to a newer version of VA.

I cannot install SP1 for VS2005, because one of my projects doesn't work with SP1.
feline Posted - Aug 21 2009 : 10:45:42 AM
Can you try installing SP1 for VS2005 please. There are some changes in how VA syntax highlighting and drawing works with SP1, and due to recent improvements in VA our drawing works better with SP1.

This is very strange. I have asked our developers if they have any ideas. I just cannot see what is triggering the problem:

Sorry for the late reply. I had been on vacation.

When I add .cs to the extensions to ignore, the breakpoints are still blue.
feline Posted - Jul 31 2009 : 11:51:58 AM
Can you try adding ".cs;" to:

VA Options -> Projects -> Extensions -> Extensions to ignore

and then restart the IDE. Does this make any difference?

Something is going on here, but I don't know what.
phunkydizco Posted - Jul 31 2009 : 03:35:49 AM
I have deleted the registry key but it makes no difference. I don't have installed an IDE power toy.
feline Posted - Jul 29 2009 : 12:08:34 PM
I have imported your settings into a VS2005 Team System machine and still no signs of this problem. This is very odd.

Can you please try closing all instances of the IDE and then running regedit and deleting the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\VisualStudio\\8.0\\FontAndColors\\Cache\
the IDE will rebuild this key when you next load it. Does this make any difference?

Have you installed any form of power toys for the IDE? I recall once seeing an odd bug in VS2005 Team Edition after installing some IDE power toys.
phunkydizco Posted - Jul 29 2009 : 05:03:19 AM
When I create a new solution the problem also occurs. The version of VS2005 is called Team Edition for Software Developers.
feline Posted - Jul 28 2009 : 7:48:35 PM
I have the log files, thank you for them:

case=30152

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce the problem with these settings. Do you know which version of VS2005 you have? MSDN does not list an "Enterprise" version of VS2005, despite this being what the IDE calls its self *sigh*

There are several flavours of VS2005 Team Edition though.

If you create a new, default solution do you still see this problem? I expect you will, but it is a quick and easy test.
phunkydizco Posted - Jul 28 2009 : 04:25:18 AM
I am using Windows XP. I have send the files with the contact formula on the VA website.
feline Posted - Jul 27 2009 : 4:04:11 PM
I am testing on the Professional version of the IDE, but that should not make much difference.

Which OS are you using?

Can you please export your VA and IDE settings and send them to me:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings
IDE tools menu -> Import and Export Settings -> Export selected environment settings

I can then import them here and see if I can reproduce the problem.

I have disabled "Enhanced Syntax Coloring" and restart the IDE, but the breakpoints are still blue.

When I change the color of the item "Task List Shortcut" the color of breakpoints change as well.

I am using the following Version:

That is really strange. Clearly VA is a factor, somehow. Which version of VS2005 are you running?

With VA installed and enabled can you try turning Off:

VA Options -> Advanced -> Fonts and Colors -> Enable Enhanced Syntax Coloring

does this make any difference?
phunkydizco Posted - Jul 24 2009 : 05:02:16 AM
I have disabled VA with the registry key and the blue breakpoints are still there. When I use the default color settings the breakpoints are also blue.

Then I uninstalled VA and suddenly the breakpoints are red! After I reinstalled VA the breakpoints are blue.
feline Posted - Jul 23 2009 : 1:56:33 PM
Can you try editing the registry to stop VA from loading on startup and see if this makes any difference:

http://docs.wholetomato.com?W306

Can you also try pressing:

IDE tools menu -> Options -> Environment -> Fonts and Colors -> Use Defaults

if this is just an IDE font colour problem then this should help.
phunkydizco Posted - Jul 23 2009 : 04:33:55 AM
When I disable VA hte breakpoints are still blue. That is very strange. I don't have other plugins installed and the breakpoints are also blue when I delete the user settings.
feline Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 11:14:39 AM
I was not aware that VA ever tried to colour a breakpoint line. In VS2005 I have "Task List Shortcut" set to a blue background and my breakpoints still show with a red background.

Can you try disabling VA via the menu option:

VAssistX -> Enable/Disable Visual Assist X

and see what effect, if any, this has on the colouring of these breakpoint lines.

I am wondering if some other IDE plugin or process on your system is a factor.
phunkydizco Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 07:58:23 AM
I figured out that VAX uses the color settings from the item "Task List Shortcut" for breakpoints. There seems to be something wrong. What can I do?
phunkydizco Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 03:37:07 AM
I am using VS2005 and the colors for breakpoints are set to the default values. No breakpoint item in the list has a blue background color.

Have a look at:

IDE tools menu -> Options -> Environment -> Fonts and Colors

there are some "Breakpoint" items in the list of items to colour for me, in VS2008. Changing the colours set in here should change the colours you see in the editor.
