Does the VS2010 build pubished here a couple of weeks ago share any config/database/cache/locks/whatever with an installed VS2008 instance of VA?

The reason I asked is that I'm having intermittent (but frequent) 'hang at startup' problems with VS2008 - when I look at the hung process there's quite a busy thread with VA in it.

This problem started to happen with VS2010 too, but went away when I uninstalled the VS2010 version of VA.

Are there any symptoms which the two versions of VA could have in common due to some kind of shared state, shared locks, etc?

Because of the nature of my work, I tend to have multiple instances of VS running at the same time, and at the moment that means a few VS2008 and a few VS2010 instances - I know there have been multi-instance issues in the past and wondered if they could be a factor between different VS versions.

Nope, not at all.

Do you have "Watch for externally modified files and reparse when necessary" enabled in either instance (VA Options | Performance)?

No, I don't think I do - unless it's the default, but I will check.

I'll try that - I'll reinstall it in to VS2010 and see what happens, and see if I can get a dump next time there's a problem - of course, it might not be VA which is the problem, and I know from past experience that the mere fact that it went away when I uninstalled VA is not evidence that it's to blame...

Thanks for the help.

We aren't aware of any hangs. By default, the symbol dbs are completely independent of each other.
