Folks,

is it only me or anybody else found MS VS exit time become unacceptable long with recent builds? It take 1-3 minutes for Visual Studio to exit after a couple days of use, and I think it started to get worse and worse with each build after 1707, which have had added "VA Options | Performance | Rebuild Symbol databases causes the db files to be purged at IDE shutdown instead of the next startup (performance enhancement). (case=20799) 8319"

Thanks,
t.

I think I forgot to mention when I sent the logs -- Working set for VS just before exit was 248Meg, Virtual around 1.5 Gb

We got the log files and will take a look at them, thank you.

I hope the logs won't get too large. If it will get in the way of yours doing the work then only turn on logging before you exit Visual Studio.

I do not know about any correlation to "rebuild all". I will keep it in mind, but generally I don't use this feature too often.

no

>On the off chance, did you change your virus killer around the time when you changed to 1707?
No, it is same corporate trendmicro, which gets disabled @ 8am and reenabled @ 11pm, so I don't think it should get into picture here.

>How much memory does the IDE use after days of use? (it is displayed next to devenv.exe in task manager)
I don't use task manager, ProcessExplorer is set as my task manager instead. Which memory metric are you interested in -- Private bytes, Working set, Virtual Size? With custom build that I got from you guys, memory consumption is not THAT bad as it was before. After I load my solution, it is 185M for working set, 479M virtual. I did not monitor it over time , but I think it goes to around 200-240meg after some use. I will keep an eye on it.

>Is it only happens after you work for days with the IDE?
It is almost instant if I haven't used it for too long (say, hour or less).

>Can you please generate a log file to see if we can see something unusual in it?

I enabled logging, so once it will be sluggish on exit again, I will send the logs.

Thank you very much,
t.

Do you only see this problem after you press the rebuild button?

Do you use any other Visual Studio plug-ins?

On the off chance, did you change your virus killer around the time when you changed to 1707?
How much memory does the IDE use after days of use? (it is displayed next to devenv.exe in task manager)
Is it only happens after you work for days with the IDE?

Can you please generate a log file to see if we can see something unusual in it?
