I am not sure this is a VA problem, because when I deactivate VA (from its menu), the problem is still there (I did not try to uninstalling VA). Nevertheless, I mention this here, maybe someone knows a solution:

Under Windows 7 x64, for large solutions (several projects, hundreds of files), closing a file is very slow (1 or 2 seconds). This is very annoying (eg. close 10 files breaks ones workflow!). Under XP32, this problem does not exist.

Since this problem happens on 2 different machines, I guess I'm not the only one.

Any hint?

Thank you for the update. I have not heard of problems with this program before, so it is good to know about this risk. I am also glad you have managed to fix the problem you have been having.

FYI, I have found the problem: Microsoft Security Essential is the guilty application. If I exclude devenv.exe and .cpp/.h file from its scope of real time checks, then speed is normal again. A huge difference!!!

Thanks for the hint. I have not found the solution yet, but VA does not seem to be involved.

If disabling VA makes no difference you could try using Process Monitor, filtered to show activity for the file you are closing, and see if this offers any clues. It is possible it is an anti-virus program, or something similar, having an effect:

Can you please try if stopping Visual Assist from loading makes any difference?
