Neither the button Rebuild (Symbol databases), nor Clear (History, cache and temporary files) deletes all data in c:\\Users\\username\\AppData\\Local\\VisualAssist\\vs8 folder. If I use more Visual Studio instances then not only vs8, but also vs8_1 and vs8_2 ... folders get created. But only one of them gets deleted with the Rebuild button.

Visual Assist saves symbol databases to disk and uses when you open the project next time to avoid unnecessary rebuilding of symbol databases to save your time.

vs8_1, vs8_2, etc. directories store information about different projects and project instances. Visual Assist only rebuilds the symbols of the project which is opened in the Visual Studio which you initiate the rebuild from.
For example say you have 3 Visual Studio instances:
project1 - opened in VS1
project2 - opened in VS2
project2 - opened in VS3

2 instances of project2 and 1 instance of project1. If you rebuild the symbol database in VS2, VS8_2 will be emptied when you exit the Visual Studio.
If you exit all visual studios and restart them, only 1 will rebuild the symbol databases, so you save time.

Normally, you don't need to use Rebuild, it is to repair a database that seems corrupted. So you can rebuild only the problem database and leave the others intact.

vs8 should be empty, or maybe contains leftover from older builds of VA.
