Posted - Oct 05 2010 : 11:45:28 AM Hello, I am currently trial-testing VS 2010 to determine which version to buy, but I found that I cannot install our current version of VA X on VS 2010. Or maybe I am doing something wrong?
This is our current IDE/VA version: VA_X.dll file version 10.3.1561.0 built 2007.09.13 Licensed to: VA X: [...] (3-user license) Support ends 2007.09.23 VAOpsWin.dll version 1.3.2.7 VATE.dll version 1.0.6.1 DevEnv.exe version 7.10.3077.0 msenv.dll version 7.10.3077.0 Font: Courier New 16(Pixels) Comctl32.dll version 5.82.2900.5512 Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3 2 processors
Platform: Win32 Stable Includes: C:\\Projekte\\rcs_reference\\rcs-7\\include\\XERCESC; C:\\Projekte\\rcs_reference\\rcs-7\\include\\CodeJockIncs; C:\\Projekte\\boost_1_34_1\\boost; C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\Vc7\\include; C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\Vc7\\atlmfc\\include; C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\Vc7\\PlatformSDK\\include\\prerelease; C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\Vc7\\PlatformSDK\\include; C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\SDK\\v1.1\\include;
Library Includes: C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\Vc7\\atlmfc\\src\\mfc; C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\Vc7\\atlmfc\\src\\atl; C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\\Vc7\\crt\\src;
Other Includes:
Do I need a newer version of VA X, or what do I need to do to get it to work with VS 2010? I did try the current trial download of VA X and it showed in VS 2010, but I couldn't enable it as VA X is already installed and maintenance is expired. |

Maybe you chose to not call your licensing model a floating license, but what we currently have certainly feels like one, as we can use it for up to 3 machines (including virtual machines) anywhere before the license server starts complaining (occasionally happens when I forget to shut down the IDE on the virtual machine). Also we only use one key.
Then again my understanding of the term floating license might not be accurate ;)
Looking forward to the upgrade, although it seems it's going to be tied to the hardware upgrade which will not happen before next year :/ |

Posted - Oct 06 2010 : 1:59:12 PM Hello sl@sh,
Please be aware that Visual Assist X does not support a floating license model. If you have n developers using our product, whether or not simultaneously, you will need n total user licenses.
You may purchase a 3-user renewal key securely using this link:

Thank you for using Visual Assist X. |

Just to be sure, as you can see above we currently have a 3 user license (floating license), with a single authentication key. I do not see any offers for quantity licenses below 5 any more. Now I wonder whether purchasing 3 individual renewal keys would do the job? |

Posted - Oct 05 2010 : 1:05:59 PM Yes, you will need to renew your license to use VA with Visual Studio 2010. (The text editor was rewritten in VS2010) We have support for VS2010 in the newest builds (from 18xx) |
