I appreciate very much Visual Assist X But there is no help in MFC resource refactoring.
VA Outline do not even show .rc files!
BUG Renaming IDs do not change .rc files.
Typical usage of those new features are:
Verifying consistency of IDs in resource identifier across exe and all the DLL and Lib.
Reordering and renumbering IDs in accord to the usage and solving
Transferring resources between different projects.
Translating resource in multiple language (using google translation service?).
Example:
1) Moving a Dialog/Toolbar resource and all the definition IDs bitmaps and string from a sample to the main project or from a main exe to a resource DLL.
2) Helping in duplicating resource for language translation supporting single resource or multiple language DLLs.
Visual Studio 2013 still do not provide any tools for refactoring resource.

I was able to enable VA Outline in .rc files, so got a limited VA Outline functionality.
I based my steps on the instructions here:

I added the .rc; to ExtSource and removed it from ExtResource.
You may want to try it. |

We are looking to make Find References and Rename scan and update .rc files:
case=18366
Unfortunately I don't currently have an estimate for when this will be done. Given this is still outstanding, unfortunately it is unlikely VA will try adding this sort of refactoring any time soon. |
