1.) It would be nice to be able to group autotext in the editor using user-defined folders as opposed to one long list.
2.) Add the ability to easily import/export autotext for easy sharing of snippets. Or put snippets in central database on network location for team sharing.

Posted - Mar 11 2006 : 11:16:14 AM for grouping, are you picturing simply being able to drag items into manually created groups, or are you thinking of some form of automatic grouping of autotext rules? if you are thinking of automatic grouping, how would you expect this to work? off hand i am not thinking of any obvious and helpful system, other than simply grouping by shortcut.
there is a recent feature request to allow for a "central" list of common autotext rules, plus the local user set of autotext rules.
are you instead picturing selecting half a dozen rules in the list and selecting some form of "export to file" option, along with a matching "import" function? or something else. |

Posted - Mar 10 2006 : 2:43:18 PM Grouping by snippet type or function. It just helps to navigate a long list of autotext a little more easily. Yes, the new editor with dragging is a _big_ improvement. The ability to create folders for further organization would help even further.
I know they're just text files and I can diff/merge them, but that feels so "manual"... ;-) Letting the tool do would be sweet. |

Posted - Mar 10 2006 : 2:04:07 PM how are you picturing grouping the items? are you aware that you can drag items around in the tree view in the autotext editor, to order them how you want?
the autotext rules are stored as plain text files, look in "C:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X\\Autotext" this allows you to easily backup and share the files, and you can diff and merge these files. |
