A few days ago, I ran across this editor(

).
Although its code complesion feature is rather basic, its suggestion list has some unique twist(AFAIK).
Instead of using arrow keys, it uses short-cut to select items(it can also fall back to usaual arrow selection if there are too many candidate.).
It is easier to select what you want in this way, IF the available items are not many.
Just give you guys something to consider.

We are considering some form of keyboard shortcut to accept the n'th suggestion in a list:
case=802
Which is slightly similar. For now have you looked into shorthand and acronyms?

When you get used to these they offer a good way of getting to the item you want with the keyboard.
