Please place the caret on a symbol before running Find References.

Please place the caret on a symbol before running Find References.

THE CARET IS ON A SYMBOL.

This error message needs to be rewritten as to not blame the user when the software is at fault.

Build 1842 is our current release version, and includes all previous fixes.

I have put in an improvement request to see what the developers make of it:

case=38201

This message can happen in any part of the many different projects that I work in, so there is no point in posting any specific code. I know that if I get this message, it will probably go away later when VA sorts itself out, or finishes parsing or whatever it is doing.

My problem is not with the fact that the error occurs, it is that this error message specifically blames the error on the user.

If VA instead said something like "'xyz' is not recognized because this code hasn't been parsed yet." then that would be much better on my nerves.

And no, I won't muck with my registry.

You can turn this message off in case it disturbs you:

It is not trivial to distinguish unrecognized symbols from not symbols.
Anyway, it shouldn't appear in normal circumstances. So it means there are unrecognized symbols in you code.
Do you use complex macros or macros in "odd" places? If you take a screenshot or paste an example we may recognize the cause of this or can ask other questions to find out the roots of this problem.
