I have VS6 and VS.NET 2003 installed in parrallel and a working licensed copy of VA6.
The following affects only VS.NET not VS6.
After installation of VA X 1214 all my costumization of the standard toolbars are lost. Even complete new toolbars I have created before installation of VA X are gone.
This happened with the 1213 and now again with the 1214. This is really quite annoying.

This "feature" comes from Microsoft's VSIP-Interface.
Every AddIn, that creates own menues or Toolbars, shows this behaviour. Microsoft is to blame for, not WholeTomato. They coded a workaroung and added a Dialog asking you during setup if you want to reset the Toolbars, when there are no changes made in between 2 Updates. But whenever they change something in the Menue/VAX Toolbar, the Toolbars and Menues will reset.
The WholeTomato-guys are aware of this problem, but I fear there's nothing they can do about it unless Microsoft changes the VSIP-Behaviour... |

They could put a warning message explaining that it's Microsoft's fault, even when it's the first install or there are changes. |

Hmmm. Is there maybe a way for the Whole Tomato guys to copy the customizations upon installation, so that they could re-apply the customizations for you after MS trashes them?
Just thinking out loud. |

Apparently not. We had a long discussion about this during the private beta period, and apparently there is no solution. |

Whidbey includes a facility to export and import custom toolbars and menus. We will take advantage of the facility when we port to Whidbey. There is little hope for other IDE users.
We are considering an installer message to blame VSIP for the current behavior. It's not our preference but we don't want any more heat than necessary. We have enough due to our own code. |
