I'm getting a license expires in 5 days - try buy etc... I'd like to buy (but will I be buying VA-X - doesn't seem clear on the web site) so I click try and devstudio just quits. Any ideas ?

No need to buy if you have a valid License for either VA 6 or VA .NET (or both). VA X will find your current Licenses and enable for the IDE you have a license for (i. e. if you have a VA 6 License, you'll only be able to use VA X in VS 6). There must be a thread floating around in this very forum explaining the Upgrade-Path...
