subj. MSVC6 SP5 VA X 1216 W2K SP3 IE6 It occurs every time when I debug my app, even if VA X is "disabled". I'he deinstalled it and the problem is disappeared. |

I have the same setup (vc6 sp5, win2k sp3) and am observing the same behavior, with 1216 and 1218. Simply running the program through the debugger (F5) doesn't cause a problem, but MSVC locks up when I try to continue (F5) or step out of a function (shift-F11) after stopping execution through the debugger (start program with step, or hit a breakpoint). Both step-over and step-into work, but MSVC stops responding when trying to continue or step-out.
This is a real show-stopper when trying to find memory leaks and other bugs, and I've had to revert back to VA6 to do debugging work. |

Same problem here. Also vc6 and win2k.
Continue and step-out halts the debugger. Step-over doesn't. It also doesn't have to be a debugger command to step out, If I just step over the last command in a function the debugger will halt when it goes out.
If I use task manager to kill MSDEV.exe the system remains stable (So it's probably not related to the BSOD debugger problem other users reported).
If VA X is enabled, the debugger will halt every time this occures. If I disable it but keep it installed, it can takes several break-and-continue before it halts, but it will do so eventually.
Also, though I'm not sure if it's related, starting to debug a program that crashed with an assertion failure while not being debugged (That is, I run the program normally, then from the crash dialog choose to debug the program, and have a new instance of MSDev started) causes the new debugger to halt while loading.
Removing all other Add-Ins have no effect.

Is there any progress towards resolving this? Anything we can try and check to help locate what's causing the problem?
I notice that a few more people have apparently the same problem http://forum.wholetomato.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1799
So far the common denominator seems to be VS6, and maybe Win2k... |
