I like to use Verdana font(size=10) in my VS6 editor, can you give me the real width of my current editting line? Plz do not simply draw a vert dot line, just to show me the width of a line of 'mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...'. How can I type a code like 'mmmmmmm'? :)
So, hope the vert-dot line to be dynamic. |

If we understand you correctly, you would like a vertical mark at the Nth column of every line, even when using a proportional font. Interesting. Though one might consider such behavior a bug at first sight, we can appreciate your request. You want to edit in a proportional font but print in fixed or copy into an application that expects fixed. |

I'm sorry that I might make you misunderstand my words, because my native language is not English, hmm.. But, you do understood my post, thanks! I like 'Verdana' font, but if I do not check the column index frequently, others who read my code will feel boring with scrolling. This is not very important, but maybe somebody has the same needs. |

Yes, I agree with David. I've wondered about this feature before, though I also would like to see it first to see whether it's really usable! |

Hello,
It's an interesting thought indeed. Besides the proportional font, one (I sometimes) could also want to ignore the spaces and tabs in front of the first non-space character.
So if you have indicated that you want to see the dots at column 80 and you have four spaces (or one tab of 4 spaces) in front of the first character, the dots could be displayed at column 84.
Thank you all for thinking this over.
With kind regards, Patrick Luja |
