It would be nice, when you post a new build, to say users do not have to reset toolbars...etc and *also* specify the last build when users had to do so. Just a useful tidbit of information that would be helpful if you didn't install a build or two. |

Good point. Perhaps we can address the issue [as well] on our history page.
Last build requiring reset was 1214. |

Maybe you should also INFORM the User while installing (something like "Visual Assist now has to reset... due to some ****y design... VSIP... etc."). I noticed that installing Build 1233 silently resets the Menus and Toolbars when installed on a fresh system.
A small note could be helpful during install...

Yes, I've argued for this several times. |

While we're on the subject, could you also tell us when it's *really* necessary to get new template files? Thanks. |

Good point, Larry...
I was always wondering "Do I miss new templates when I click 'No'?" I know I could always wade manually through all the template-files to search for new templates... Suggestion: All "Whole-Tomato"-Templates are named as usual (e.g. Cpp.tpl, CS.tpl etc.) All USER-Templates are always named USER_Cpp.tpl (USER_CS.tpl etc.) Visual Assist then merges both Files at runtime. Show them in the Menu separated by a separator, VA_X Templates above, User-Templates below... This way you don't have to confuse the user while updating your templates, cause you can leave the USER-templates untouched, and the User always gets the newest templates AND his own Templates without worrying!
What do you think of that? |

That is a very good idea. You can work around this by backing up your own templates and then just pasting them in every install but it would be nice not to have to do this. |

We find most templates we supply are lame, er, rarely used. The Autotext is good. The two just happen to live in the same file.
We believe people who use templates have their own. Ours are just examples to get one started.
Listing our templates before the user templates might not be the answer, but we get your point. Not sure yet how to improve.
For now, we will discuss template changes in more detail when we post a build. If in doubt, do not overwrite. It is rare we make a change worthy of overwriting.
Those who never modify default templates are never concerned with this topic. VA X notices the defaults and doesn't ask. |
