As an alternative you could put your cursor beside the function's open brace, and then press <ctrl><]>. That will immediately take you to the matching brace. Press <ctrl><]> again and it will take you back to the start of the function.
This also works with parentheses and brackets.
I just tried it with the "less than" and "greater than" symbols and it works for them too. This is really only useful when dealing with long template definitions.
