This may be a dumb question but does Visual Assist X expose any of it's settings that other Add-Ins could change? (Could I set prefrences or change colors with an Add In I wrote?)

you could try editing the registry settings where VAX stores it settings, but you may need to restart the IDE for this to take effect.
