I've been noticing lately that when I do a save of the current code window, it takes 5-10 seconds before it's done saving and then the caret has disappeared. I have to switch to another tab and then switch back to the original tab before the caret comes back. In reality it's still there (I can type and the text appears at the correct place) but it's disconcerting working that way.
I'm using Visual Studio 2002 (C++) on A Windows XP Pro SP2 machine.

it sounds a lot like a focus bug i get when using Object Bar (from Stardock) to make the IDE the current program. does alt-tabbing to another window and back again cause the caret to reappear?
i have never seen this happen on saving a file, and i don't get the slow down either.
it is almost as if some other process is checking the file you are saving and grabbing focus in the process. have you recently changed anti-virus programs?
is this file specific? project specific? do you have any other plugin's installed?
if all else fails personally i would run a spyware scan, just to make sure.
