... I don't know why for certain, but my best guess is that VA doesn't support the macros used by FreeType in #include directives:

#include FT_FREETYPE_H
#include FT_GLYPH_H

which are defined as e.g.

#define FT_FREETYPE_H <freetype/freetype.h>

Could a developer please confirm this bug?

i have never heard of freetype before. following a quick google i got as far as:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/freetype/

which file do i need to download and extract to set about reproducing this? i don't really want to have to read all of the instructions to find out, since it would probably be quicker to set up a test form first principles.

I can confirm that we do not preprocess #include directives. VA handles them independently of macro parsing.
