Every time I restart Visual C++ 7.1 all my visual Assist-Configuration (colors etc.) are lost and set back to the 'standard'. How can I save these options

Are you using a restricted account (read: non-admin) on your OS?

Which OS do you use?

no! I'm local admin and have full access to registry etc.

can you download and run Regmon

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html

starting with the IDE closed i ran Regmon, turned on filtering (there is a filtering toolbar) and set it to include the string "Visual Assist X"

loading the IDE showed VA loading its settings. the settings are saved when you close the IDE, so can you change one or more setting, clear the Regmon list, and then close the IDE. this should list VA saving out all of your settings, and the success or failure of each save. hopefully this will help to show up what is going on here.
