If you set a dark background using Display Properties|Appearance|Advanced|Window, your listboxes have a dark background and our coloring works fairly well. The problem is you get dark backgrounds all over the place -- and you may not want this.

If you set a dark background by changing the background of Text only within the IDE, listboxes continue to have a white background and our coloring might not work well. Coloring is okay if you have all other colors in the IDE set to defaults, ie nothing is too light. Coloring of anything but the source window is not cool if you use a light color for anything.

If you use a dark background in the IDE and light color for anything else, you are forced to disable Enhanced Syntax Coloring for everything but Source Windows.

There is one bug in which we draw non-symbol characters using black everywhere but in Source Windows. We should use the color of Text. For those with a dark background, this means you cannot see parentheses and commas in dropdowns and tooltips. Naturally, we wil fix this. This ought to help a number of our users with dark backgrounds.

Several people using a dark background for Text within the IDE have asked we consider an option to use the same background in dropdowns and listboxes. This would let one get more value from our Enhanced Syntax Coloring. It also means you see our listboxes with a dark background, and listboxes beyond our control appear with a light background. We will do some experimenting in the future to see if the combination is tolerable or ridiculously annoying.

I'm assuming this all applies to .NET only? Can you comment on the same subject for VC6? Thanks.

Personally I find the "selected" color (default: beige) of all items very annoying. This is so not-windows and sometimes even hard to see.
