I am using VX build 1849 in VS2005. I occasionally lose enhanced syntax highlighting for variables and methods, but only in the source code window. VA Outline View and listboxes still have correct syntax highlighting. Deselecting and selecting "Text Editors" in the Fonts and Colors dialog has not affect, nor did rebuilding symbols, and closing and restarting Visual Studio.

As of now, I have no syntax highlighting for methods and variables in the code editor window. Any ideas on how I can get the syntax highlighting restored?

Which Visual Studio and Visual assist versions are you using?

Resetting the colors usually helps with this problem:
IDE tools menu -> Options -> Environment -> Fonts and Colors -> Use Defaults

The versions I use are in my original message.

Resetting the IDE to Use Defaults did not fix the problem.

Do you have any other IDE plugin's installed?
Have you installed VS2005 SP1 yet?

Which OS are you using, and is it a 32bit or 64bit version?

Can you please export your VA and IDE settings and send them to me:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings
IDE tools menu -> Import and Export Settings -> Export selected environment settings

I can then import them here and see if I can reproduce the problem.

Have you happened to restart Visual Studio after resetting the colors?
Do you have SP1 installed for VS2005?
If you open the VS colors dialog:

Tools -> Options... -> Environment -> Fonts and colors

do you see item beginning with "VA X..." in the listbox? Do they have the correct colors?

VS2005 SP1 has been installed for a long time, and I have no other IDE plugins installed. (This just began happening a couple days ago. The first time I noticed it is when I stopped the debugger. When the debugger stopped, I noticed the missing syntax highlighting.)

I have restarted my machine and Visual Studio multiple times since the problem began, but highlighting is still missing in the editor window.

OS is Windows XP 32-bit with SP3.

VA X items do appear in the Fonts and Colors listbox, and they appear to have the correct colors.

I will email the requested settings info to feline.

I have the settings files, thank you for these. I am seeing the same problem when I import them here. Can you please close all instances of the IDE, then run regedit and delete the following key, and all of its content:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\VisualStudio\\8.0\\FontAndColors\\Cache\
The IDE will re-create this key next time it loads. This fixed the colouring problem for me.

>> ...delete the following key,....

That worked. Thanks.

Does that mean the root problem was somewhere in Visual Studio?

To be honest I am not sure where the problem came from, but at a guess Visual Studio did not properly register the changes VA tried to make when you installed the latest build.
