I suppose that ":BRC:" is the abbreviation for bracket. Sometimes this shows up in the HCB, definition bar, etc., sometimes the more understandable ":{:" or ".{."
BRC appears when our scope parser is whacked -- typically after some editing. The parser resets itself rather quickly, especially after you sit idle or scroll.
