Hi,

When I copy a bunch of code, is it possible to have the syntax highlighting (e.g. colors) copied to the clipboard as well?

I can see the color when I paste them into an RTF-enabled application like Word (http://docs.wholetomato.com/default.asp?W218), but not when I paste them into an HTML aware app like GMail.

Thanks,
Adi

Which IDE are you using? The page you linked to is for VC6. VC6 does not place HTML into the clipboard, and may well not understand HTML coloured code when you come to paste it back into the editor.

That was just the link. Although I miss VC6, I haven't used it in years :-)
I use e.g. VS2012

Which version of VA are you using? I have just tested this here with VS2013, VA 2052 and Gmail in Internet Explorer, and VA colouring is preserved when copying code from the editor.

This should be working in VS2010 and above, in the last few builds.

Using:
VA_X.dll file version 10.9.2052.0 built 2014.11.05
With VS2010 and VS2013:
Paste is plain text only in Chrome for Mac OSX. Safari on Mac OSX works fine and also Chrome on Win7.

How are you running Visual Studio on the Mac? Some form of virtual machine software I assume. This adds another layer, something else that might be interfering with the formatting of the text in the clipboard. Since this works in two out of your three cases it sounds like it is working correctly at our end, which is what I am seeing in my tests. This suggests a Chrome for Mac OSX probem, or possibly something to do with how you are hosting the IDE under OSX.

If the app being pasted into doesn't read RTF, then it won't get color. Seems like this is more of a feature request for HTML clipboard format rather than a bug. There is no option in VA or VS to output HTML to the clipboard.

It looks like the Productivity Power Tools extension in the VS Gallery might support HTML clipboard format output.
