Could you guys possibly put in a timer delay of say half a second in the Find Symbol Dialog, such that the filter waits until you haven't been typing for half a second before it does the filtering?

I've got a huge workspace and it's so slow because it keeps filtering on each keypress.

Cheers

One caveat: Typing a filter and pressing Return quickly can take you to the first symbol sans filtering.

We recommend you type your filter, wait for the filtering to complete, then press Return.

Is there any way to configure the length the delay? It's too long for my tastes.

No way to configure length of delay.

Just remember how long it took [takes] without the FSIW dialog.

I'm used to the old behavior of no delay, so that's what I compare with, not what it was like without VAssist.

At the very least, please add an option to turn this annoying feature off. Thanks.

And I misspoke -- I'm referring to the OFIW dialog (which also now has a delay), not the FSIW dialog.

I concur. Actually, I was going to this topic to request this exact thing (no delay in OFIW dialog), but if it has to be both, I would prefer the whole thing go away. Seems like an option would be more and more in order here.

And FWIW, my large projects (100's of files in more than a dozen projects) also have a noticeable lag in FSIW, but at least it tries to work while I'm typing. Having to stop typing to get an update changes the "feel" significantly.

you guys should set to delay to something like 250 milliseconds or so, which would do the best of both worlds. Everyone types fast, right ;) ?

In 1440, the OFIW delay is fixed at 200 ms and the FSIW delay is 500 ms.

This will be changed so that it is context-sensitive based on the size of the search set.

If less than 1000 files, OFIW will have no delay. It will step up to 100, 150 and finally a max of 200 ms (<3000, <5000 and 5000+ files).

If less than 1000 symbols, FSIW will have no delay. It will step up to 100, 200, 300, 400 and finally a max of 500 ms (<10000, <20000, etc).

Whatever you do, when the user presses Return, could it select the file that you typed for, not the one that's currently highlighted? I'm currently getting bitten a lot by typing in a known unique substring of the name of the file, then pressing return straight away, and getting the wrong file because the dialog hadn't updated yet.

Case 966 is fixed in build 1442.

When you press Return in dialogs, filtering begins immediately and Return is queued until filtering is done.

Perhaps it's just VC 6, but when I type in the FSIW dialog it pauses after every character I type. This is annoying. It doesn't appear to be doing any work - just pausing. It seems to pause almost a second. My build is 1442 on VC 6 SP 6.
