Hi,

I use Visual Assist X 10.2.1434.0.

Step to reproduce my bug:
1) I intalled it with user AAA.
2) Log off and log with user BBB.
3) Open Visual Studio .Net 2005

--> MessageBox "A critical error occured while initializing Visual Assist X."

What I need to do for be able to use Visual Assist X with multiple user ?

Best regards,

The simple answer might be to login as each user you want to use on this system and install VAX. This may take some time if you have many users, but it may solve the problem for you.

Hi,

I tried to install VAX with user BBB, but I can't install
it in the same directory.

I don't want to create
C:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X
C:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X_2
C:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X_3
C:\\Program Files\\Visual Assist X_... for each user

Best regards,

Hmmm...that is very strange. I hope that WT will get back to you on this because I'd love to know why that is happening. Better yet, I wonder why the install isn't being installed for ALL users on that machine initially. Most tools at least give you the option to do that.

Hi,

I found a way to bypass the problem... if the user BBB is an
administrator of the PC, all it's ok.

But is bad to put all user administrator ! :-(

i am under the impression that limited users under winXP cannot write to the "Program Files" directory. given how VA has to hook into the IDE this could cause some problems if true.

making VA install and work with non admin users has been mentioned before, but has not yet been addressed

case=169

logged in as user BBB can you look in IDE menu tools -> customize -> add-ins and macro files tab
and see if VAX is listed? it VAX is listed but not ticked it may be as simple as ticking VAX and then reloading the IDE. if this does not help you may need to reinstall VAX as user BBB.
