I'm getting the 'Package Load Failure' error upon VS startup. I've tried repairing my VS 2005 install. I've tried reinstalling VsX a couple times. I've tried the new 1446 build. My protected storage service is running, and always was.

Help!

Sorry- here are my details.
Also-- Curiously VsX loads fine if I invoke VS by loading a solution/project file. It is only when I startup the IDE blank that I get the failure. My default startup setting for the IDE is blank (ie no home page, etc).

Can you post more info about the error? We recall this error in our forums previously but cannot find references to it. Maybe more of the message will help.

Did you have admin privs when you installed VA X?

Do you have any other add-ins or packages installed? (Check Tools|Add-in Manager.)

Hi,
I have CodeAnalyst installed (and have had for some time). I always run with admin priviledges. It began happening after I was looking at a bunch of crash dumps (.mdmp) files.
I am running XP 64-bit.
There is an item in your FAQ about this error- but it doesn't seem to apply to this case, unless I do indeed need to uninstall and reinstall VS.

The message is more or less:

Package Load Failure
Package 'visual assist x' has failed to load properly ( GUID = {4430D46-96B5-etc} ).
.... You may use devenv /ressetskippkgs to re-enable package loading.

Like I said-- I don't receive the error when I load the IDE by double-clicking a project or solution in Explorer. It's only when the IDE loads up empty.

The error hasn't magically vanished ;)
Any support options?

We believe something is whacked in your setup. It's hard to say exactly what the problem is or how it got there.

Can you try disabling CodeAnalyst "at startup" to see if you have a conflict?

See this thread for some ideas:

Uninstall and reinstall of VS.NET is a tedious but likely solution.

It's not CodeAnalyst-- but thanks anyway.
I'll reinstall VS.
