Hello!
Visual Assist produces a beep each time I press Alt-M to list the methods in the current source file. The list drops down and works just fine -- it's just preceeded by a beep.

That is unexpected. I cannot reproduce the problem here, using Vista Buisness 32bit, VC6 and VA 1559.
Have you used any previous versions of VA on this machine? I am wondering if this is a new problem. Are you using a custom sound scheme? Somehow linked beeping to a "standard" event?
If you disable VA does the beeping still occur on listboxes? |

It is a new machine, and also a transition form XP to Vista Home Premium. If I disable VA, and hit ctrl+space, I can scroll through the entries with no beeps. If I re-enable VA, hit ctrl+space, and scroll, the beeps are back.
Are there circumstances in which VA emits beeps by design?

Not really. You can get a beep when trying to do something "impossible", but this is more a case of the IDE beeping at you. The alt-m list beeping was due to VA sending an Escape key press, which the IDE / OS saw as Escape being pressed when there was nothing to escape.
So that was fixed by changing how the list worked, and stopping sending Escape.
Using that as an example, it is almost as if the IDE thinks that keyboard focus is somewhere other than on the listbox. Looking around the screen are you seeing anything "odd" that would suggest keyboard focus is on some other program, or part of the IDE? |
