Hi,
the new "highlight active line" feature does not work all the time on my PC.
The first time I tried, it did not work.
At the moment I have 3 studio instances open. In the first one it does work in the two others it doesn't.

Until now I could not reproduce under which circumstances it does work and when not.

Best regards,
Simon

First step, close all IDE's, and make sure there are no hung / dead IDE processes in the background.
Now run a single IDE, turn on this feature, and close the IDE.

This will make sure that VA has written out the setting to the registry correctly. By default this is turned off.

Does this fix the problem?

I am guessing that different IDE's have different settings, and are overwriting each others settings on exit.

Hi,
I made several futile attempts with even rebooting my PC but now I got the bug reproduced on my PC:

The "highlight active line" does not work on source windows which are already open when I open a solution in Visual Studio 2005.
Closing the open source windows and reopening them does enable the "highlight active line" feature. It always works in source windows which are opened after Visual Studio is started.

Best regards,
Simon

Do you have any other plugin's installed?

I have just tried this test here, and I am not seeing any problems. The current line is highlighted on files that were open, and also on files that I open later.

Can you please go to:

VA Options -> About -> Copy Info

and paste the details (from the clipboard) into this thread. This will give us the basic information about your setup.

VA_X.dll file version 10.3.1549.0 built 2007.03.16
VAOpsWin.dll version 1.3.4.8
VATE.dll version 1.0.6.2
DevEnv.exe version 8.0.50727.42
msenv.dll version 8.0.50727.42
Font: aoourier 11(Pixels)
Comctl32.dll version 5.81.4916.400
Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4
Single processor

When I start VS, and last loaded project gets loaded, then I don't see the selection in the documents, that are opened with the project startup. But when I do open any other document(source file) from Solution Explorer, the current line selection works OK for this document. But still NO for documents, that opened with VS startup.

This bug works similar in both VS2003 and VS2005 installed on my machine.

Are both of you using localised OS's? What about the IDE, is this localised on both of your machines?

I am not sure why this would matter, or why only you two are seeing this problem, but it could be a factor.

Esone did you reset VS2003 when you installed 1549? I know you avoided resetting VS2005.
Simon did you reset your IDE when you installed VA?

The startup state of the VA View might be a factor here.

Does the VA view appear at startup for those of you with this problem?

Yes, VS2003 has been reset. VS2005 hasn't been. But now both have a problem with current line selection in startup documents.
My Windows is not localized, it is pure english. Both VS-s are also not localized.

Can you post a screen shot of your IDE when you first load it, before you load a solution? Or if you submit it via the form:

http://www.wholetomato.com/support/contact.asp

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up, I can post it here for you.

It doesn't appear that the VA View startup is a factor. I was able to reproduce it. case=5636
I don't think we will hold up 1549 for this, but do anticipate that it will fixed for the build next month.

Hi,

I assume it is no longer needed but nevertheless...

VA_X.dll file version 10.3.1549.0 built 2007.03.16
VAOpsWin.dll version 1.3.4.8
VATE.dll version 1.0.6.2
DevEnv.exe version 8.0.50727.42
msenv.dll version 8.0.50727.42
Font: Courier New 13(Pixels)
Comctl32.dll version 6.0.2900.2982
Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2
2 processors

Feline: what do you mean by "reset your IDE"? Restarting Visual Studio after the installation? My Visual Studio was closed during the installation and restarted after the installation was finished.

Best regards,
Simon

When you install a new build of VA it asks you if you want to "reset" the IDE. This is required for VA to add its menu to the IDE, and to make the other changes it makes to the IDE. You are not asked the first time you install VA, since the reset automatically happens, since it is required for VA to work.

Does this make sense?

Sean has found the cause of the problem, so there is no need for you to reinstall 1549 and try this test.

Ok, now I know what you mean.
-> Yes, I allowed VA to reset the IDE.

Simon
