I have noticed that the indicator column set under the General tab is the column past the left most displayed column instead of column 1. Thus, a setting of 120 will not give you the indicator at column 120 if you are scrolled any number of columns to the right. Is there a way to make this so that the indicator is based on column 1 even when you are scrolled to the right?

The indicator column normally stays put. There is a known bug when scrolling sideways a "page" at a time by left click after the scroll bar "block" on the horizontal scroll bar. The column indicator does not move / update, leaving it at the wrong position.

If you scroll sideways by dragging the scroll bar "block" or scrolling in the code with the caret then it should move correctly.

This is not what I am witnessing. Here is an example case:

I have the column set to 120, a line that is 132 characters long, and the window wide enough to fit 129 characters without scrolling horizontally. With the caret at column 1 the indicator appears at column 121. Using the right arrow key I move the caret and the indicator stays where it is at until the caret gets to column 128. At this point the page scrolls to the right and the indicator repositions itself to column 129.

Usually I have the window sized to fit 100 characters. When in this configuration the indicator is not visible when the caret is at column 1 (which it shouldn't be). When the caret is moved (using the right arrow) the page scrolls right so that column 124 is visible. The indicator is not visible (it should be on column 120). Continuing to more the caret right scrolls the page right the rest of the way so that the end of the line is visible (column 132) and the indicator is way off to the right (probably around column 140).

The same happens whether I am using the arrow keys to control the caret, the HOME & END keys, the scroll bar (scrolling one line at a time, a page at a time, or dragging the scroll bar), or dragging the mouse to select text. In all cases the indicator moves and does not show the correct column.

I am using Visual Studio 2005 with Visual Assist X version 10.3.1559.0 built 2007.07.06

So far I cannot reproduce any of these problems here, using VS2005 and VA 1559. The indicator column is behaving its self for me.

Do you have any other IDE plugin's installed?

Can you please go to:

VA Options -> About -> Copy Info

and paste the details (from the clipboard) into this thread. This will give us the basic information about your setup.

*sigh* there is nothing odd or unusual there. I was wondering if you were using an unusual font, but apparently not.

Can you export your VA and IDE settings please and send the settings file to me? I will then import them on a test system and see if I can reproduce the problem that way:

VA Options -> Performance -> Export Settings

IDE tools menu -> Import and Export Settings -> Export selected environment settings

Please submit the files via the form:

http://www.wholetomato.com/support/contact.asp

including this thread ID or URL in the description, so we can match it up.

I have the settings files, thank you for those. I have finally managed to reproduce this, but I need to scroll sideways past column 170 for the problem to show up. I believe this is covered by:

case=53

Since you are using VS2005 have a look at this, there is a hidden feature in this IDE that should do exactly what you want, hopefully without the problems:
