(I don't know whether this is alrady a known problem.) I quite frequently face this problem when try to use ALT+M. The scenario is the following (I want to jump to a specific method in a specific file and FSIW would be slower) :
1. I open a file using OFIW (I don't know whether this first step is necessary to reproduce the problem, but maybe) 2. I immediately press ALT+M after the previous Enter (that opened the file) 3. I immediately begin typing a substring of the method I search.
Symptom: The letters in 3. goes to the document window instead of the combo box of ALT+M, so the file gets edited. I usually already pressed enter when I relalized that something went wrong, then I have to undo my changes until the modify flag (the star after the document name) disappears, and start over from 2.
What is more annoying is that the popup covers the typed letters, so in most cases I also have to click in the document window to hide that to see what is happening in the background.
Since I have only memories from modifying the beginning of the files I guess it happens only in combination with file open.
I just easily reproduced it with a file with lots of methods with long names. 1. OFIW 2. file name mask 3. Enter 4. ALT+M 5. typing 6. Enter I have a modified document, an empty combo box edit field, a long list of methods that covers the source. I am pressing ESC-s to escape from the combo box without success. I cannot click on the document window because the popup covers it entirely. So I had to find a place other than the popup to click at, then undo etc.

I am seeing the same effect here. Thank you for the clear description.
case=8857
For now the solution is to give VA time to register the new file has been opened before opening and using the alt-m list. Unless your files are very large (like 20,000 lines) a second or two should be ample time. |

Just an addition, I also meet the problem when using ALT+O. I noticed that I don't even release ALT when pressing ALT+O, M (having ALT remained pressed). I don't know if other users have this problem too but I face it many times. |

Wow! I have noticed this bug also, but since it wasn't very frequent, I couldn't observe the pattern to reproduce.
It was rare for me, but when it happened I was VERY angry , because when I tried to do the navigation faster, the focus problem stopped me...
jmihalicza, thank you for the reproduce pattern! |

I encounter this occasionally (in both scenarios, probably a few times a week, enough to be annoying) as well. |
